The Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) is the maximum volume of air that can be expired after the person has made a maximal inspiration and with the patient expiring as forcefully and rapidly as possible.
NOTE: While the FVC has a value close to the vital capacity (VC) it is slightly greater since it is forced.
