Richardson et al reported the PREDICT score for identifying an adult in the Emergency Department who is at high risk of dying within the next year. The authors are from Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology.
Patient selection: adult >= 55 years admitted into the hospital from the ED
Outcome: 1-year mortality
Parameters:
(1) referral to palliative care team for a noncancer diagnosis
(2) residence in nursing home
(3) admitted to ICU with multi-organ failure
(4) current diagnosis of cancer
(5) number of previous medical admissions in the past year
(6) age in years

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 1
• maximum score: 41 (paper says 44, probably by including all age groups)
• A score >= 13 was associated with a high likelihood of 1-year mortality.
