Description

The Pre-verbal Early verbal Pediatric Pain Scale (PEPPS) can be used to measure pain in young children based on observed behavior. The score can be used to monitor response to therapeutic interventions. The study was done at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.

Age target: 12 to 24 months (toddlers)

Parameters:

(1) heart rate

(2) facial expression

(3) cry (audible/visible)

(4) consolability/state of restfulness

(5) body posture

(6) sociability

(7) sucking/feeding

PEPPS =

= SUM(points for all 7 parameters)
