Description

Calame et al reported a simple score for predicting 28 day mortality rate for a patient with non-occlusive mesenteric ischemia (NOMI). This can help to identify a patient prior to surgery who has a worse prognosis. The authors are from CHU Besancon and University of Franche-Comte in France.

Patient selection: non-occlusive mesenteric ischemia (NOMI)

Parameters:

(1) serum lactate in mmol/L

(2) renal infarction

(3) prothrombin rate in percent

Other factors associated with mortality:

(1) other organ infarctions (liver, spleen, etc)

(2) significant axial narrowing of the mesenteric arteries (superior mesenteric artery diameter <= 5 mm)

(3) older age
