Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) may occur more frequently in patients with certain risk factors.
Risk factors for SCAD:
(1) fibromuscular dysplasia
(2) hormone-replacement therapy in post-menopausal woman
(3) systemic inflammatory condition or connective tissue disorder
(4) physical and/or emotional stress
Risk factors associated with pregnancy-associated SCAD:
(1) multiple pregnancies
(2) therapy for infertility
(3) pre-eclampsia
Risk factors for recurrent SCAD:
(1) hypertension
(2) failure to treat with beta-blocker (therapy with beta-blocker reduces risk)
