A person on a vegan diet may develop a number of nutritional deficiencies. The deficiencies may also affect an infant being breast fed by a vegan mother.
The most often deficiency is vitamin B12.
Other deficiencies may include:
(1) vitamin D
(2) folic acid
(3) vitamin A
(4) calcium
(5) zinc
(6) selenium
(7) iron
(8) iodine
(9) protein
Factors affecting deficiencies:
(1) age at start of vegan diet and number of years observed
(2) modifications to the diet
(3) use of vitamin supplements
