A request for postmortem sperm collection can rarely occur. This allows for posthumous reproduction (PAR).
Situations where the request has occurred:
(1) sudden death of spouse or life partner
(2) shortage of donor sperm with desired characteristics
Factors entering into the decision:
(1) premortem consent by the subject for postmortem sperm collection
(2) enrollment as a tissue donor
(3) who is making the request
Practical considerations:
(1) time between death and time of collection
(2) availability of a procedure to guide collection
(3) access to legal documents
