Henoch-Schonlein purpura associated with Group A streptococcal infection is an uncommon condition. It is also the probable cause of Mozart's death.
Clinical features:
(1) recent evidence of infection with Group A Streptococcus infection, with or without rheumatic fever
(2) onset of Hemoch-Schonlein purpura, with one or more of the following:
(2a) skin rash
(2b) glomerulonephritis with IgA mesangial deposits and/or nephritis
(2c) myocarditis
(2d) neurologic findings
(2e) arthralgias/arthritis
Variable findings:
(1) hypocomplementemia may be present.
(2) significant proteinuria including nephrotic syndrome
