Mease et al identified factors associated response to abatacept therapy in a patient with psoriatic arthritis. The authors are from University of Washington, University of Glasgow, Stanford University, and St. Vincent's University Hospital (Dublin).
Patient selection: psoriatic arthritis
Response: measured with ACR20 (American College Rheumatology criteria for 20% improvement).
Factors associated with a positive response to abatacept therapy:
(1) elevated C-reactive protein (> 3 mg/L)
(2) high DAS-28 score (DAS28 using CRP > 5.1)
(3) dactylitis
(4) >= 3 joint erosions
These factors are recognized as factors associated with poor prognosis or disease progression.
