Description

Batterby et al reported the POLARS (preoperative LARS) score for evaluating a patient after restorative rectal cancer resection. This can help to identify a patient who may develop the low anterior resection syndrome (LARS). The authors are from the UK and Danish LARS Study Group.

Parameters:

(1) age of the patient in years (from 30 to 80 years)

(2) sex

(3) partial or total mesorectal excision (PME vs TME)

(4) distance (height) of the cancer from the anal verge in cm

(5) stoma

(6) radiotherapy prior to surgery
