The plasma during an intermittent infusion represents an combination of two patterns - an accumulation phase during the infusion followed by excretion pattern after the infusion is stopped.
Parameters:
(1) infusion rate in mg per hour
(2) elimination rate constant k
(3) infusion period in hours
(4) dosing interval in hours (time between the beginning of 2 separate infusions)
(5) time since dosing interval started in hours
(6) clearance in L per hour
plasma drug concentration at steady state levels =
= (infusion rate) / (clearance) * (1 - EXP((-1) * k * (infusion period))) * EXP((-1) * k * ((time since dosing interval started) - (infusion period))) / (1 - EXP((-1) * k * (dosing interval)))
