Description

Rangaraju et al reported the Pittsburgh Response to Endovascular therapy (PRE) score for selecting a patient for endovascular therapy following large vessel occlusion stroke. The authors are from Emory University, University of Pittsburgh, Neurology Hospital Vall d'Hebron (Barcelona) and Wellstar Neurosurgery (Atlanta).

Patient selection: large vessel occlusion stroke

Outcome: modified Rankin scale (mRS)

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) NIHSS score

(3) ASPECTS (Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score, from 0 to 10)

PRE score =

= (age in years) + (2 * (NIHSS)) - (10 * (ASPECTS))

PRE Score

Benefit of Successful Recanalization

<= -25

no benefit

-24 to 49

better chance for a good outcome

>= 50

no benefit

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve ranged from 0.72 to 0.79.
