Description

Some basal cell carcinomas (BCC) may be pigmented.


Patients at risk: non-White (Asian, Hispanic, Black)

 

Location: eyelid and sun-exposed skin

 

Pigment: melanin, with increased melanocytes

 

Gross appearance: brown, blue-grey, black

 

Clinical features: may be tender

 

Histologic growth pattern: as for non-pigmented BCC (nodular, morpheaform, other)

 

It is important to exclude other pigmented tumors, especially malignant melanoma.
