Description

Occasionally the genital louse Phthirus pubis may affect the eyelashes and eyelids.


Cliinical features:

(1) blepharoconjunctivitis with pruritis and ocular hyperemia

(2) watering of the eye

(3) variable crusting along the eyelids

(4) variable involvement of the scalp

(5) nits on the eyelashes

(6) presence of nits and lice elsewhere on the body

 

The diagnosis may indicate the presence of:

(1) sexually-transmitted diseases

(2) child abuse if the patient is a child

 

Differential diagnosis:

(1) tick larval infestation
