Persistent genital arousal disorder (PGAD) is extremely rare in males. Its features are comparable to those seen in women with the disorder.
Features of PGAD:
(1) symptoms characteristic of sexual arousal persist for an extended period of time and do not subside completely on their own
(2) symptoms of arousal are not resolved by ordinary orgasms
(3) symptoms of arousal may be unrelated to any subjective sense of sexual excitement or desire
(4) sexual arousal may be triggered by nonsexual stimuli and can be spontaneous
(5) symptoms are intrusive and unwanted (viewed as negative)
(6) symptoms can cause moderate or severe distress
The presence of PGAD in a patient with restless leg syndrome is referred to as the restless genital syndrome.
A patient with the disorder responded to paroxetine (Paxil).
