Description

Bullous pemphigoid can manifest itself as a localized condition centered around a wound.

Examples of localized bullous pemphigoid:

(1) peristomal

(2) urostomy site

(3) surgical wound

The eruption may appear nonspecific and bullous lesions may not be recognized. It needs to be distinguished from other dermatoses adjacent to surgical wounds (irritant or allergic contract dermatitis, other).

The diagnosis may be suspected if:

(1) the patient has a history of bullous pemphigoid

(2) the skin biopsy with immunofluorescence indicate pemphigoid
