Description

A patient with psoriasis is at increased risk for periodontitis.


Manifestations of periodontitis:

(1) decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT)

(2) clinical attachment loss (CAL) and increased probing depth

 

Risk factors for periodontitis:

(1) severity of psoriasis (severe > moderate > mild)

(2) psoriatic arthritis

(3) therapy for psoriasis

 

Other risk factors for periodontitis:

(1) obesity (elevated BMI)

(2) smoking

(3) diabetes

(4) poor oral hygiene
