Description

Shimizu et al reported the performance measure for activities of daily living-8 to evaluate a person's performance of the activities in daily living. The authors are from Nagoya University, Toyota Hospital, Fijita Health University, Nagoya Ekisaikai Hospital and Niigata University in Japan.


Activities of daily living (ADL):

(1) getting up and off from the floor without tools

(2) washing body and hair

(3) walking upstairs without using the handrail

(4) vacuuming a room

(5) pulling and closing a heavy sliding door

(6) getting in and out of a car

(7) walking at the same speed as someone the same age as you

(8) walking up a slight slope for 10 minutes

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 8

• maximum score: 32

• The lower the score the better patient's independence.

• In the study of Yamada et al, a score >= 21 was associated with exhaustion.
