Description

Some men undergoing therapy for prostate cancer may develop penile shortening following therapy.


 

Penile shortening:

(1) may affect some men after total prostatectomy or radiation therapy for prostate cancer

(2) is often associated with erectile dysfunction

(3) may be self-perceived and linked to reduced self-esteem

 

The extent of any shortening may be reduced by:

(1) nerve-sparing surgery for total prostatectomy

(2) early penile rehabilitation

(3) management of erectile dysfunction

(4) steps to enhance self-esteem
