Description

A cutaneous horn may rarely develop on the penis, usually on or near the glans.

Features of a penile cutaneous horn:

(1) squamous epithelial proliferation, with or without dysplasia and/or carcinoma (about a third may show squamous cell carcinoma).

(2) prominent hyperkeratosis which if elongated may resemble a small horn

(3) variable presence of HPV

Occasionally more than one may be present.

It is important to completely excise the lesion and to demonstrate the junction with the dermis to exclude malignancy. A well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma may be deceptively bland in appearance.
