Description

Yukovic et al used the Pediatric siMS (PsiMS) score evaluate an obese pediatric patient for the risk of the metabolic syndrome. The authors are from Mother and Child Health Care Institute of Serbia, Harvard Medical School, and the University of Belgrade.

Patient selection: obese child or adolescent

Parameters:

(1) waist circumference in cm

(2) height in cm

(3) blood glucose in mmol/L

(4) serum triglycerides in mmol/L

(5) systolic blood pressure in mm Hg

(6) serum HDL cholesterol in mmol/L

waist to height ratio =

= (waist) / (height)

Parameter

Points

waist/height ratio

2 * (ratio)

glucose

(glucose) / 5.6

triglycerides

(triglycerides) / 1.7

systolic BP

(systolic) / 130

HDL cholesterol

-1 * (HDL) / 1.02

score =

= SUM(points for all of the parameters)

Interpretation:

The mean score for the study population was 2.78.

The higher the score the greater the risk for the metabolic syndrome.
