Pediatric ED Overcrowding Scale (PEDOCS) of Weiss et al

Description

Weiss et al reported the Pediatric ED Overcrowding Scale (PEDOCS) to describe the status of a pediatric Emergency Department (ED). The authors are from the University of New Mexico, University of Colorado, University of Miami and Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

Selection: pediatric emergency department

Parameters:

(1) number of patients waiting in the Emergency Department

(2) total number of registered patients

PEDOCS =

= 33.3 * ((0.04 * (total registered)) + (0.07 * (number waiting)) + 0.11)

In Figure 1 the parameters are graphically displayed. The corresponding PEDOCS are:

busy	38.33 to 80.59
extremely busy	80.59 to 117.88
overcrowded	117.88 to 159.84
