Description

Carreau et al reported the PCOS-HS index to predict the risk of nonalcoholic liver disease in an adolescent girl with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from further evaluation. The authors are from the University of Colorado.

Patient selection: adolescent girl with polycystic ovary disease (POS)

Parameters:

(1) BMI percentile, from 89 to 100

(2) waist circumference in cm, from 80 to 130

(3) serum ALT in IU/L, from 10 to 100

(4) SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin) in nmol/L, from 0 to 80

points for BMI percentile =

= 402.72 - (4.027 * (percentile))

points for waist circumference =

= (0.72 * (circumference)) - 57.6

points for serum ALT =

= (1.11 * (ALT)) - 11.11

points for SHBG =

= 75.6 - (0.945 * (SHBG))

total score =

= SUM(points for all 4 parameters)

Interpretation:

minimum score: 0

maximum score: 256.5

The higher the score the greater the risk.
