A patient questionnaire for symptoms associated with dry eyes can be used to screen a group of people for evidence of keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS).
The questionnaire consists of 14 signs and symptoms related to dry eye.
The responses are yes or no, scored 1 or 0 points respectively.
Interpretation:
• The presence of the positive responses to the first four questions had the highest sensitivity and fairly high specificity for keratoconjunctivitis sicca.
• One or more of the first four symptoms was present in 98% of primary Sjogren's Syndrome (SS) , 85% of patients with connective tissue disease (CTD) having keratoconjunctivitis sicca symptoms, and 67% of "normal" controls with clinical keratoconjunctivitis sicca.
