Ruta et al reported the Patient-Generated Index (PGI) to describe the patient's quality of life. The authors are from Ninewells Hospital and Medical School in Dundee and University of York.
Subject: patient
Number of stages: 3
Stage 1:
(1) list the 5 most important areas of life affected by the condition.
(2) add a sixth item for all other aspects of life
Stage 2: grade each item from 0 to 100 for how much each area has been negatively impacted
Stage 3: distribute 60 points to the items based on how important the item is to the patient
For each item:
subscore =
= (score from stage 2) * (number of points) / 60
total score =
= SUM(points for all of the parameters)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 100
• The higher the score the greater quality of life has been impacted.
