The Patient Determined Disease Steps (PDDS) is a measure of disability in multiple sclerosis. It is derived from the Disease Steps and correlates with the EDSS.

significant problems limit daily activities but no limitations in walking ability

gait disability
walking affected; can work a full day; usually do not need a cane; may need cane during an attack

early cane
use of single cane, crutch or other form of support; can walk 25 feet in 20 seconds without walking aid
4
late cane
need a single cane or crutch to walk 25 feet; may need wheelchair to go a long distance
5
bilateral support
need two canes or crutches or a walker to go 25 feet
6
wheelchair or scooter
main form of mobility
7
bedridden
unable to sit in a wheelchair for more than 1 hour
