Patella baja (low-riding patella) refers to the patella location more distal than normal.
Patella baja may be congenital or acquired.
Features of patella baja:
(1) Caton-Deschamps ratio <= 0.8
(2) short patellar tendon
(3) knee pain
(4) decreased range of motion
Pseudo-patella baja can occur after total knee arthroplasty due to elevation of the joint line. The patella shows a normal position relative to the femur.
