Description

The Paris Consensus on Childhood Constipation Terminology (PACCT) was proposed by 8 pediatric gastroenterologists who met at the Second World Congress of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition in Paris in July, 2004. Pelvic floor dyssynergia was one of the conditions defined.

Pelvic floor dyssynergia is defined as an inability to relax the pelvic floor when attempting to defecate.

This may feature one or both of the following:

(1) failure of the sphincter to relax while attempting to defecate

(2) abnormal contraction of the pelvic floor during defecation

The term pelvic floor dyssynergia replaces the term anismus.
