Description

Martinez-Selles developed the PALSUSE score for evaluating a patient undergoing surgery for infective endocarditis. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are from multiple institutions in Spain.

Patient selection: surgery for infective endocarditis

Outcome: in-hospital mortality

Parameters for the PALSUSE acronymn:

(1) prosthetic valve endocrditis (P)

(2) age in years (A)

(3) large intracardiac destruction (L)

(4) Staphylococcus species (S)

(5) urgent surgery (U)

(6) sex (S)

(7) EuroSCORE (E)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 7

• The higher the score the greater the in-hospital mortality.
