Description

Male squid have large, thread-like spermatophores which contain sperm. If these "sperm bags" are released they may become attached to adjacent mucosa.

Clinical features:

(1) The patient eats raw or poorly cooked squid.

(2) After putting the squid in the mouth the patient experiences pain, which may be intense.

(3) Examination of the oral mucosa shows attachment of thin, thread-like structures.

(4) Removal of all the attached structures relieves the pain.

(5) Exclusion of other diagnosis.
