Tromeur et al reported a score for recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE) in a patient with unprovoked pulmonary embolism. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive management. The authors are participants in the PADIS-PE Study Group.
Patient selection: unprovoked pulmonary embolism
Outcome: recurrent venous thromboembolism
Parameters:
(1) age in years
(2) pulmonary vascular obstruction index (PVOI) in percent after 6 months of anticoagulation, from V/Q lung scan
(3) antiphospholipid antibodies measured after 6 months of anticoagulation (including lupus anticoagulant and anti-cardiolipin antibodies)
