Noer et al developed a comorbidity score for women with ovarian cancer. This can help to identify a patient who may benefit from more aggressive maangement. The authors are from the University of Copenhagen, the Danish Cancer Society and Herlev University Hospital in Denmark.
Patient selection: ovarian cancer, age >= 16 years
Outcome: overall survival
Parameters:
(1) age in years
(2) arteriosclerotic heart disease
(3) hypertension
(4) chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
(5) diabetes mellitus
(6) dementia

= SUM(points for all 5 comorbid conditions)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: -0.29
• maximum score: 2.23
• The higher the score the greater the risk.

where:
• Certain cells cannot be met with score: high risk for 16 to 44 years, low risk for >= 65 years, moderate risk for >= 75 years.
• Low risk is associated with 75% chance of surviving > 24 months. Moderate risk with 75% chance of surviving 6.1 to 24 months. High risk with 75% chance of surviving <= 6 months.
