Risk factors for in-hospital mortality:
(1) rupture
(2) urgent or emergency surgery
Complications following surgery may include:
(1) stroke
(2) paraplegia or paraparesis
(3) renal failure
(4) ischemic bowel
The 6-year survival for those who survived to discharge was 39%.
The patient usually requires long-term antibiotic therapy which may be lifelong.
