A splash pad can be the source for outbreaks of diarrheal disease.
Pathogens may include:
(1) norovirus
(2) Shigella
Risk factors for an outbreak:
(1) swallowing water from the splash pad
(2) inadequate disinfection of the water
(3) inadequate training
(4) equipment failure (filters, pumps, collection tank, free chlorine monitor, etc)
(5) large number of people exposed
(6) use by anyone with diarrhea or loose stools
