OSHA Requirements for Toilets at Construction Jobsites

Applicability: construction jobsite

Parameters:

(1) number of workers at the jobsite

(2) availability of sanitary sewer

(3) availability to nearby toilet facilities

Requirements:

(1) There are sufficient toilets for the number of workers (see below).

(2) There is an adequate means of handwashing after use of the lavatory.

(3) The ready availability to nearby toilet facilities may be sufficient.

(4) If a sanitary sewer connection is not available, then the toilet may be a privy, chemical toilet, recirculating toilet or combustion toilet.

(5) Sewage from the toilets should not contaminate ground or surface water.
