Description

A hazard assessment is performed at a worksite so that potential problems can be identified. Each problem needs to be addressed to mitigate the risk to workers. This may involve administrative action, engineering controls or personal protective equipment (PPE).

The hazard assessment needs to be documented with recording of:

(1) the site evaluated

(2) the person conducting the assessment

(3) date of the assessment

Specific hazards to be looked for:

(1) falls

(2) slips

(3) confined space

(4) falling material

(5) compression, roll-over and entrapment

(6) hazardous chemicals and toxic byproducts

(7) hearing loss and noise

(8) electricity

(9) equipment guarding and safety measures

(10) temperature extremes of heat or cold

(11) light and radiation (microwaves, ultraviolet (UV), infrared (IR), X-rays, gamma rays)

(12) infectious agents

(13) fires, burns and explosions

(14) dusts

(15) vibration

(16) ergonomic issues

(17) sharp and/or penetrating objects
