A company needs to address Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements in its Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
Basic PPE: hard hat, footwear, eye and face protection, gloves, reflective clothing
Risk-Specific PPE: oxygen-reduced environment, HAZMAT, fire, smoke, dust, radiation, biohazard, electrical
Usage:
(1) during evacuation
(2) during response and recovery
Requirements for EAP:
(1) Conduct a hazard assessment to determine hazards and appropriate PPE.
(2) Attempt to reduce potential hazards by engineering, work practice and administrative controls.
(3) Acquire and distribute PPE, with controls to ensure sufficient supplies.
(4) Provide training in the use of the PPE.
(5) Provide fit testing as required.
(6) Conduct drills to ensure that PPE is used properly.
(7) Review and update requirements as conditions change.
