Description

A common site of lesions for a patient with paracoccidioidomycosis is in and around the oral cavity.


 

Sites of lesions:

(1) upper and/or lower lip

(2) buccal mucous membrane

(3) tongue

(4) sublingual region

(5) pharynx

(6) tonsils

(7) palate

 

Features of lesions:

(1) infiltrating

(2) vegetating

(3) ulcerating

(4) crusting

(5) papular with or without pustules

 

Characteristic lesions:

(1) muriform stomatitis (erythematous ulcers with a granulomatous base showing patchy hemorrhage)

(2) macrocheilitis

 

Clinical findings may include:

(1) sialorrhea

(2) regional lymphadenopathy in the neck
