The orbital compression syndrome is a rare complication of sickle cell disease. It overlaps with the orbital compartment syndrome.
Patient selection: sickle cell disease
Causes:
(1) vaso-occlusive crisis with bone marrow infarction in the orbital bones
(2) subperiosteal hematoma
(3) cellulitis
Clinical findings:
(1) proptosis
(2) restricted ocular movement
(3) conjunctival chemosis
(4) eyelid edema
(5) frontal headache
