A patient with linear scleroderma involving the forehead and/or face may have disorders affecting the ipsilateral eye.
Synonym: facial en coup sabre
Patient selection: linear scleroderma with linear scarring over the face and/or forehead with or without adjacent alopecia
Eye changes that may affect the ipsilateral eye may include:
(1) uveitis
(2) keratopathy
(3) retinal detachment
(4) restricted eye motility from extraocular muscle involvement
(5) cataract
(6) acquired corneal astigmatism
(7) optic neuritis
(8) lacrimal gland disease
(9) loss of vision
(10) reduction in globe size
(11) enophthalmos
(12) posterior pole hypopigmentation on fundoscopic exam
Changes to the central nervous system may include:
(1) epilepsy
(2) neurovasculitis with lesions of the white matter ipsilateral to the skin lesions
