Occupational exposure to coffee can involve multiple roles, some of which may be associated with respiratory symptoms.
Types of occupational exposure:
(1) harvest
(2) drying, roasting and grinding
(3) brewing
Mechanisms of respiratory symptoms:
(1) allergy to a mold associated with coffee grounds
(2) coffee allergy
(3) irritant dust
Signs and symptoms:
(1) cough with or without sputum production
(2) rhinitis and/or rhinorrhea
(3) dyspnea
(4) sneezing
Differential diagnosis:
(1) smoking
(2) non-occupational asthma
