Description

Umar et al reported an obstetric early warning score (EWS) for use in a low resource setting. This can help to identify a woman at increased of deterioration. The authors are from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.

Patient selection: obstetrical patient

Parameters:

(1) body temperature in °C

(2) pulse rate in beats per minute

(3) respiratory rate in breaths per minute

(4) systolic blood pressure in mm Hg

(5) urine volume in mL per hour

(6) mode of birth

(7) consciousness level (AVPU)

A score >= 5 was associated with severe maternal outcome.

Performance:

The area under the ROC curve is 0.92.
