An obese patient may develop a nephropathy that may become mixed with other types.
Clinical features:
(1) The patient is obese.
(2) The patient may show a glomerulopathy with hyperfiltration and proteinuria (albuminuria).
(3) There may be a decrease in GFR to < 60 mL per min per 1.73 square meter
(4) The nephropathy improves after starting an appropriate diet with weight loss and/or bariatric surgery.
Other conditions that may be present:
(1) diabetic nephropathy
(2) urate nephropathy
(3) drug-induced nephropathy
(4) hypertensive nephropathy
