Description

The obesity index of Khosla and Lowe is similar to the ponderal index but has the advantage that the index is positively related to body weight. It is in the form of (W / H^3). It is not an acceptable index of obesity.

ponderal index of Khosla and Lowe =

= (weight in pounds) / ((height in inches) ^3) * 10000

= 36.066 * 10000 * (weight in kg) / ((height in cm) ^ 3)

where:

• 36.066 is the conversion factor for pounds and kilograms (2.2) divided by the cube of the conversion factor for inches and centimeters (0.3937)

Limitations:

• This index has both a lower correlation with weight than the other indices, and a negative correlation with height.
