Angular cheilitis may occur as the result of a nutritional disorder.
Patient selection: reversible angular cheilitis
Nutritional problems associated with angular cheilitis:
(1) deficiency of vitamin B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5, B7 (biotin), B9 (folate) or B12
(2) deficiency of metals such as iron or zinc
(3) generalized malnutrition
(4) hypervitaminosis A
The diagnosis is supported by:
(1) exclusion of other causes
(2) reversal on correction of nutritional problem
