Description

A continuous infusion started after a bolus dose will reach a certain plasma concentration after a number of drug half-lives.

Parameters:

(1) concentration of the drug at steady state

(2) peak concentration of the drug after the bolus dose

number of drug half-lives required to reach a target drug concentration in plasma =

= (-1.44) * LN(((target drug concentration) - (concentration at steady state)) / ((peak concentration after the bolus) - (concentration at steady state)))

where:

• The target steady state concentration for the infusion is calculated above.

• An assumption is that the time of the bolus and the time of starting the infusion are the same.
