Notalgia Paresthetica (NP) is a sensory neuropathy that is classified as a neuropathic itch syndrome.
Derivation: notos (back), algos (pain)
Mechanism: compression of the dorsal branches of spinal nerves at T2 to T6
Clinical features:
(1) circumscribed pruritis between the scapulae or over the lower portion of the scapula opposite to the dominant hand
(2) evidence of spinal disorder from T2 to T6
(3) exclusion alternative diagnosis
(4) hyperpigmentation over the affected area
