Marti-Soler et al developed the NoSAS score to screen for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA. This can help to identify a patient who should undergo polysomnography. The authors are from Lausanne University and Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo in Brazil.
Patient selection: adult
Parameters:
(1) neck circumference in centimeters
(2) body mass index (BMI) in kg per square meter
(3) snoring
(4) age in years
(5) gender

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 17
• A score >= 8 was associated with high probablility of OSA.
• Guichard et al found it useful in evaluating depressed adults with disordered sleep.
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve was 0.74.
