Description

Fuhrer et al interviewed patients with pressure ulcers for reasons associated with poor compliance with skin care instructions. Although the response frequencies may differ, these same reasons can be found in self-care of other conditions.


 

Personal reasons:

(1) forgot

(2) did not want to do it

(3) did not understand how

(4) had too many other problems

 

Care reasons:

(1) care took too much time

(2) care took too much trouble

(3) care took too much effort or energy

(4) care was unpleasant

(5) care activities are unsafe

(6) no one was there to help (unable to do by self)

 

Associated reasons:

(1) lack of proper equipment or medicines (ran out, other reasons)

(2) equipment or medicines cost too much
