Description

Pregnancy is contraindicated in a number of cardiac conditions. Pregnancy may also be contraindicated in a number of non-cardiac conditions.


Non-cardiac contraindications to pregnancy:

(1) exposure to teratogenic drugs, including some chemotherapy agents, especially in first trimester

(2) high risk of lethal or serious genetic mutation in fetus

(3) high risk of uterine rupture

(4) certain malformations or anomalies of the uterus, including uterine hypoplasia

(5) serious comorbid condition that makes the mother unfit for pregnancy (severe kidney disease, severe autoimmune disease, severe hypercoagulability)

(6) life-threatening problem with a previous pregnancy that is likely to occur in a later pregnancy
